Systematically scrape the individual player data from [login to view URL] into a .csv file. Player id appears to be a 5 digit number (e.g. [login to view URL]) but I do not know if .
I'm looking for the ability to scrape data from every NCAA player in the last 4 years (2010 - now) and in the future, to scrape the current year.
Code can be Perl or Python
I want the main sections of the code to be commented, so if I have to update it slightly due to a web page naming format change, I can do that myself.
The scraper should be kind to the website and not overload it with fast requests.
The scraper should include the option to only scrape current year since I won't need to re-run that part after I have run it for past years.
The output should be a .csv of the data from the page, including:
scrape time, url accessed, Player name, player team, DATE, OPP, RESULT, MIN, FGM, FGA, FG%, 3PM, 3PA, 3P%, FTM, FTA, FT%, REB, AST, BLK, STL, PF, TO, PTS

I would use python with the scrapy framework. This should run on any operating system. I would use ini files for basic configuration without having to change code. Potentially the code would consist of two pieces: a scraper, and a post processor to convert the scraping results into your desired format. If necessary I'd use sqlalchemy and sql tables to hold intermediate results.
