VBA + .NET Debugging

Software program was developed in MS Visual Basic and .NET, with I/O between multiple MS Excel spreadsheets and software. After 3 man-months of coding, followed by 1 man-month of debugging, Lead Developer quit to take other job during software debugging phase. Currently, the software runs, but crashes repeatedly for 1 or more latent bugs from legal I/O entries by user. As of now, software consists of the following: 1 html help file, 27 *.vb files, which is composed of 13 forms and 14 other *.vb files with a grand total of 9903 lines of code. There are 13 *.resx files. For the 13 forms, there is a total of 8408 lines of code, with a maximum of 2716 lines in one form, a minimum of 47 lines in another form, and an average of 646.77 lines of code per form. For the 14 other *.vb files, there is a total of 1495 lines of code, with a maximum of 375 lines in one file, a minimum of 13 lines in another file, and an average of 106.79 lines per *.vb file. There is one *.mdb (MS Access) file with 120 fields in one table that is created, read, and written to by the program. There is one of each of the following file types: *.vsd, *.sln, *.suo, *.txt, *.user, and *.vbproj Your task is to: a) comment on the quality and professionalism of the current coding, comparing it to "Code Complete" and similar good workmanship practices and code quality assurance practices, standards, and techniques. Report shall include the standards you are using to judge current code against, analysis performed, conclusions, examples/snippits of code as example and justification for supporting your conclusion, and recommendations. Report is a maximum of 5 typed pages, minimum of 1 typed page. b) Debug the software (either manually, or write test code to test automatically) so that all legal and illegal I/O, all starting states, all environments, etc. no longer crashes the program, no memory leaks, etc.. Once these two tasks are complete & verified by us), we will Beta-test market, and provide you with a summary of the customer's feedback. You will provide us with a report (5 pages or longer) on your recommendations for full commercialization of the software (described elsewhere). ## Deliverables Your final report (mentioned previously in Brief Summary section) will be at least 5 typed pages, describing the work you performed, the general quality of the code at the completion of your work (eg. adequate comments, compliance with "Code Complete" and similar good workmanship coding standards), commercialization opportunities for the software, conclusions, and your recommendations for Beta-testing and full commercialization (marketing, financing, channels, etc.) of the software. In your bid, please provide the following: a) Your bid price in US$ b) Your method to ensure software specifications, source code, *.exe, and *.msi files are **FULLY** protected via version control and other methods from both internal and external piracy, theft, inadvertent disclosure, unauthorized access, etc. We prefer to prevent problems, rather than get lawyers involved after the fact. c) Prior experience in Software Quality Assurance (eg. CMM: Capability Maturity Model, Code Complete, Mistake Proofing, etc.); d) Any prior experience & success you have had in the co-ordinating, facilitating, making introductions, etc. of software to venture capitalists, white hat investors, and/or strategic partners (in case our marketing plans, funding, and commercialization efforts are insufficient, as the market has changed drastically in last year). If you are just interested/capable in debugging/programming, that's OK too. If you are interested/capable in this area, that's all the better.
