simple 2D Design

. Aims of assignment The aim of the AutoCAD assignment is to assess your understanding and ability to create basic digital 2D floor plans in a Construction context. 2. Introduction You are expected to develop basic 2D floor plans as part of a drawing set for an initial planning application. The project is a two-storey detached house with the following constraints: • An external wall thickness of 300mm • An Internal wall thickness of 105mm. • A building footprint (overall size), which is unique for each student. The building footprint for each student will be provided by the lecturer (and be available on the VLE). Note: The dimensions provided for the footprint must be used as they form part of the grading criteria. Your habitable rooms must have windows. You must use effective space planning to account for the specific requirements of each room i.e. bedrooms must be able to fit a bed, kitchen to incorporate space for storage and appliances etc. Provision for a staircase must be made in the plans. A typical size for a staircase is: Length 3.5m x Width 1.2m. This size may be altered to suit your design. You may want to use Metric Handbook as a starting point in designing your house. 3. Objectives • To demonstrate the basic skills to operate AutoCAD for design work. • To be able to draw objects with precision in AutoCAD. • To be able to edit and modify AutoCAD drawings. • To be able to annotate and dimension a drawing, in order to provide relevant practical information for the project. 4. Requirements • Your drawing must have and use all the appropriate layers. • Your drawing and its dimension annotations should be in millimetres. • Your drawing must contain the relevant text annotations to denote the usage of rooms. • Your design must have a realistic internal layout. While you will be assessed on your drawing abilities, a realistic design is considered more professional and presentable (adding furniture is optional). Assessment and grading Assessment will be based on two criteria: • Ability to communicate your design using the relevant CAD software • Ability to demonstrate your awareness of good design practices, for example how realistic and practical your design would be.
