Updated Specifications for the Forum RSS Aggregator Website – Updated on April 24, 2014
Website Summary
The Forum RSS Aggregator Website (FRAW) website design will categorize and display forum discussion RSS feeds from multiple discussion boards across the web. If there is an Open-Source server side app that does this, please suggest it and then we can look into integrating it for this project.
Website Administration
The backend administration would allow me to perform the following tasks with discussion board RSS feeds:
1. Add and Remove nested categories for assigning RSS feeds to.
2. Admin form for adding a new RSS feed to the site that includes the following:
Site name
Site URL
Site logo or icon.
Assign a Category
Activate, Deactivate or Remove
Number of days between check for new threads
Number of threads to retrieve per day
Time of day to retrieve threads
3. Mechanism to add, edit, delete, list categories and RSS feeds
4. Track search keywords
5. Multiple admin login accounts
Front End Design & Navigation
The front end of the FRAW site would allow for the following functionality:
1. List and navigate categories
2. List forum threads under each category, including Title, Author, Date, Time, number of replies, Site
3. Allow users to full-text Search all threads by category or multiple categories, displaying results.
4. Selecting a thread from a list will navigate to a second page (of the same site, NOT to the source forum site) that displays the complete thread contents including replies if possible.
5. [login to view URL] (home page) will list latest threads for each category
6. In the top header section of page template will be a counter that displays the Total number of “Discussions” on the site. The counter will update dynamically so that the user can see the total increase.
7. UI box that lists trending threads (most active in the past week)
8. UI box that lists “Hot” threads (threads with most replies)
9. UI box to list sponsored and featured forums
10. Menu navigation for site pages including, About, Contact, Categories, etc.
11. UI box to subscribe to the site’s own RSS feeds, Facebook and Twitter accounts.
12. Google Adsense banner ads on each site page.
13. Extensive SEO (search engine optimization) to get site feeds on page 1 of search keywords
14. Login for registered users to manage their RSS feeds.
15. Site UI design including logo, theme, custom icons for threads, etc.
16. A way for users to add comments about specific forum threads.
17. A link for users to reply to a thread by opening a new window that displays the source forum thread.
