Hi,
We are seeking a blogger for our new blog that will launch in ten days. This is contract / part-time / gig work, probably ideally suited for a student, fresh grad, or experienced blogger who wants a part-time gig while working from home, class or any remote location.
About us:
We are small group of executive woman working in heavy industry, technology and pharmaceuticals. We met through work, networking events, and at university. With an average work experience exceeding 20 years, we work mostly at the Director and VP level in our respective organizations. We appreciate recent advances in equality, but feel change is coming too slowly, and that the establishment is dragging their feet, especially with regard to advancing female interest in the workplace. We are not angry, but we are seeking action NOW.
Our blog:
We are planning to launch a new blog addressing challenges faced by woman in the workplace. Given our experience, we plan to focus on the industrial, technology and pharmaceutical sectors, but will also comment on other sectors as appropriate.
Our goal is to create a community for professional woman in Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary - where we live and work. We plan to first launch our blog, and eventually grow to host an annual networking event for professional and ambitious woman like ourselves. We believe companies can move faster in the pursuit of equality and diversity, and aim to bring our issues to the forefront.
Some topics that we think might be suitable include:
- Diversity at work. Woman on boards of public TSX, NASDAQ and NYSE companies. Woman on boards of companies in Switzerland, the UK, Germany etc. New rules and guidelines on equality and how they impact the workplace. Executive governance, diversity and company performance. Accomodations for woman with children. Remote working and its impact on productivity. Recent lawsuits regarding gender bias (ie. See Ellen Pau's lawsuit against a silicon valley VC firm and her allegations of bias at work), the boys club, Jiam Ghomeshi and the CBC. The list is endless, and with very little work you should be able to think of many more topics. It is up to you, not us, to come up with six posts per week.
You can use your pen name. Your pen-name will appear under your posts. We are building a community of writers and woman in business. So feel free to use your pen name and to differentiate yourself.
Our needs:
Initially we are seeking one or two part-time bloggers to write short, pithy blog posts commenting on current events in the technology, industrial and pharmaceutical sectors as they arise. The blog posts should be professional, but can contain some humour. Over time we will expand the blog posts from commenting on relevant current events, to creating our own value added content including surveys, thought pieces and discussion forums.
The assignment:
At first, we want 20 or so quick blog posts based on recent events in the news. We will post these to our blog and back date them so we have some historical content when we launch. Then, in an ongoing fashion, produce six or seven short blog posts per week (200-350 words each), including an interesting picture and link to the source story behind the blog post.
Be professional, yet have an opinion or position and feel free to comment on the story. Develop your own voice, and use this as a creative writing project, defending your position and viewpoint.
Compensation
$50 per week for the six or seven short blog posts per week. No benefits as this is contract work / gig work ideally suited for a student, recent graduate, part-time worker, or stay-at-home worker. This is part-time contract / gig work work and not full time employment. We own all final content, and will make final edits to the post before posting it on our blog.
We are looking for good opinion pieces and content so we have an interesting blog at launch.
We need:
Your address or a mailbox so we can mail you the $50 payment each week when you submit the content.
A constant stream of blog posts commenting on current events in the news, and how they impact woman at work and our professional lives.
Issues such as equity of pay, fair promotions, remote working, flexible working hours, child leave rights and benefits, executive leadership, mentoring, diversity on the boards of public companies, diversity in the execitive management team of companies - are right up our alley, and blog posts on these topics would be appreciated.
Please email us a brief overview of your skills and availability. If you are an expert in social media - even better. We hope to launch our blog shortly, and to grow it using social media and other channels. So we want to start receiving content in the next few days and preparing for our launch.
