Loading gnucobol from Ubuntu's repositories yields a working but non-current version. The latest version from Sourceforge will use the MicroFocus extensions for ACCEPT and DISPLAY statements. However, downloading from Sourceforge doesn't give you all of the dependencies which will have to be configured manually. I want you, on your own computer running Ubuntu 20.04, to install and configure gnucobol and then test a very tiny source program ([login to view URL]) that I will send you that will confirm that it's working after you compile and run it.
I am pretty sure that the cobol compile command will be: sudo cobc -x -std=mf [login to view URL]
That will produce an executable program named "hello" that you can run with the command: ./hello
Then I want you to write a shell script that I can execute that will do everything to duplicate what you did to get a working installation of the latest gnucobol on my computer.
