Update the question category selector in the questionbank jstree ([login to view URL]) with the checkbox plugin. This might require core hacks in files the files /lib/[login to view URL] and /question/classes/bank/search/category_condition.php.
There are two selectors which needs to be updated, as shown below. The one on top needs to be set as a multiselect tree with checkbox (probably need to use ajax and write a new search function to handle this), and the selector below should be restricted to single select only.
