Change CSS elements in existing website

We have an existing website running Wordpress on a theme that runs on Visual Composer in the backend.
There is a portfolio grid that has an image and the title and category text displayed when hovered. When hovering, there is also a 50% black that appears behind the text and over the image.
We would simply like all the title and category texts to be displayed on page load instead of when hovered (so visitors can see what it in the portfolio item before hovering) ie: when the page loads, you see the portfolio grid, the images, and the title and category in each item. Hovering still produces the 50% black behind the text and over the image.
We would also like details about what code you have changed to achieve this, so we can replicate the changes when/if we update the theme in the future.
