We are in search of an experienced structural engineer to develop a secure and reliable installation for a base, pole and street light in an outdoor environment. The project entails designing the optimal weight and dimensions of a concrete base essential to support a 12-foot tall aluminum pole, with an outer diameter of 47.9 mm and with a thickness of 4.5 mm. At the upper end of the pole, an arm extending 500 mm will bear a street light weighing 8 kg. This installation must exhibit resilience against wind speeds of up to 50 km/h while maintaining stability. The concept aims to create concrete slabs suitable for accommodating the base, poles, and street light installations. The primary objective is to design these slabs to be as lightweight as possible, ensuring ease of mobility. Additionally, the slabs can be embedded into the ground to enhance overall stability.
The hired engineer will undertake the following responsibilities:
1) Calculate the precise minimum weight and dimensions (LxWxH) of the concrete slabs necessary to avert any risk of the pole or light tipping over, considering the specified wind conditions.
2) Devise an Excel spreadsheet that permits input of relevant figures and subsequently generates the calculated weight and dimensions of the concrete base. This spreadsheet will serve as a future reference for similar projects.
