inhouse vb project diagnose issue with stalled application

We have project with a client that has a custom in house Visual basic application.
The application is a schedules job that runs every evening at 8pm and runs for a few minutes.
The original developer is no longer available and so need some to identify why the application now stalls and produces an error relating to data values not being in the correct format.
We have the original source code available and need a developer who can show that they can investigate why this program is stalling.
Connection to the server would be done via a remote application and we would expect a backup of the original code to still be available incase we want to rollback.
