Looking for someone whom can help develop the database schema and approach on Azure.
Project to capture and query emails in a database, we are only interested in whom is in contact with who, not the subject or content of the emails.
We are not looking for implementation, we are looking to get a recommendation on platform and database schema we would need as well as the user interface to query.
We need to store approximately 1,000,000 emails a month in a database from a companies exchange email platform. We have a way to extract the information from Exchange, but not a view on the database or tables required.
The database will need to be structured so queries display as follows:
If an email domain is queried it will show the people at that email domain whom have been in contact with our organisation. The result should be a summarised view from the most engaged email address to/from in the last 12 months to the least.
If an email address is then queried a list of the most recent contacts from our organisation from most contacted in the last 12 month to least most contacted would be displayed.
So a rolling record of emails between parties will be necessary
Special cases
Ability to have a restricted list : users within our company, recipients at a company and entire companies should not be returned in the results, this list should be editable.
The ability to have internal users allocated to groups and then only allow people to search their groups or allow other people to search a combination or all groups
It will need to run on Microsoft Azure infrastructure
Need to have a query and display mechanism for the results to staff whom have access
It will need a recommendation on a reasonable user interface for the query.

Handling a total 12M e-mails won't seem a problem for Ms Sql db. However, querying on that amount of raw data will be slow if the data isn't indexed.
In my opinion, you need a special indexing application that indexes each email according to final query requirements.
Total interactions, ineracted domains and all seperate data chunks can be held different tables. This way the query won't need to check large amount of data for getting results like "who is the most interacive user?"
I have developed a similar application for another client. He needed to index email lists that reached about 60-70 GB in total. I used Elastic Search and was quite satisfied with the performance.
