I'm not sure about what you mean by "high level", as this is system level and considered "low level" But if you want a script that send you some sort of alert (mail or other) when backup failed (missing a file less then 24h old) i can sort this out for you. Linux server? Regards Antony

Ideally, the backup should run automatically according to a deifnity schedule (every night, once a week, etc.), and once the report is finished via email, about the status of the process

These requirements can be implemented with postgresql jobs.
