XML Web Service (and its client) using PHP (with a simple website too) There is a requirement to build a dummy Web service (not a real one), which is to be used during developing a major software system (and would be used instead of the real one as the real one contains commercial secrets and therefore cannot be exposed to the outside world.) Therefore an expert programmer is not required to develop this Web service (and its client piece) and the budget allocated is small (to be honest). Secure programming practices, etc. are not expected. The selected developer would develop a Web service and its client (using PHP as the development language) according to an XML specification to be provided. The XML spec. describes the messages that go between the client and Web service up and down and we would use a SOAP proxy (such as apache tcpmon) to monitor the in-coming and out-going SOAP messages and check whether they are compatible with the XML specification, which is necessary. If the messages are not compatible with the XML specification to be provided then the dummy Web service and its client would not be able to be used in the other major development exercise and therefore it would be of no use for us. There would be 17 API functions exposed as Web services and both these 17 functions and the clients who are calling these functions must be developed (by the selected developer) so that they would communicate using HTTP SOAP messages. For finding restaurants in a city:- function restaurants_in_a_city (char[] name_of_the_city} { return a_list_of_hotels_in_the_given_city; } To consume the above function (exposed as an HTTP Web service), the client piece would also be developed. call restaurants_in_a_city(“London”); ----------------------------------------------------------------- Each Web service should return a reasonable amount of dummy data (but looking real – which uses real world examples) in a randomized manner to the client piece. Client should display them in a reasonable manner that would enable checking what results are coming from the service – Serious HTML5 / CSS3 designs are not expected in displaying results (and allowing us to check whether the service is working correctly and what results it is sending is enough. but the results must be shown in a simple, meaningful and user friendly manner because this client would be used during the above mentioned major project to compare results from the client they develop and the results shown in the simple Website to be developed by the selected developer in freelancer.com) It may be possible that results sent by one function in the dummy web service is used in the call to another function (as input parameter) in the dummy web service. For example, if the results from function restaurants_in_a_city (char[] name_of_the_city} returns "Indian Restaurant" Then next call would be send_price_range ("Indian Restaurant"); The dummy web service would simulate user authentication, reservations, online payments, etc. We would like to know your fee first (but please be kindly aware that our budget is closer to the $30 end rather than the $250 end of the $30-$250 range) and we prefer a developer who can do this in less than one (1) week. After the end of the major project, this project will be of no use for us and therefore the cost plays a bigger role in selecting a developer.
