EPUB format is actually a ZIP formatted archive with various text files and other multimedia resources (that an EPUB reader or device opens and displays). Since UNZIP operation generally requires additional security (file system) privileges on a web server I believe you would like a desktop application. The plan is to create Node.js based application using Electron so the output will be Mac (preferably) or Windows application that will: 1. Read the EPUB file given (file or URL). 2. Take the cover image from it (and can manipulate it like resizing to smaller size etc). 3. Take the description IF it exists and use it. 4. Publish the EPUB data retrieved to various web portals using their API and login credentials (if they offer that, login data read from a file next to main application executable file). Regarding the description: one way of having a description in EPUB is by using DC meta tags (e.g. dc:description in this case). It is not mandatory to have and by memory cover image is also not required as being a metadata that can be absent and EPUB readers/devices must still have to display the ebook to the user.
