VB6 Updating HOSTS and LMHOSTS files on remote Win2K laptops Assumptions Facilities already exist to move (via e-mail) the programs/scripts and other files from a central server to the remote laptops. Facilities exist to place said files into a given folder and cause one or more of the scripts or executables to be invoked. Laptops are members of a Win2K domain, but users login to the laptops when not connected to a LAN. Users are assigned the default Win2K power user privileges and rights. Task Programs and associated ‘script` files are required that enable a remote Windows 2000 Professional laptops (‘Client’) to: 1 Replace and/or remove the HOSTS and/or LMHOSTS files found in C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc folder 2 The program will replace and/or remove the lmhosts file held in: C:\winnt\System32\Drivers\etc\lmhosts 3 The program will replace and/or remove the hosts file held in: C:\winnt\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts 4 The power user rights and privileges are insufficient to perform these actions and the remote users *cannot* login to Win2K with admin user rights. Consequently the program may have to execute in the context of an account with sufficient privileges. • The program should make an entry in a text based log file with a note of the actions performed and whether or not they were successful. The location of the log file is not material, and can be hard coded. You should give some indication of the approach you would plan to adopt and if your bid is accepted, to provide a more detailed specification. Bids are expected to be open until 23rd January. A bidder will be selected in week commencing 9th February.
