I have a very large (130GB) CSV file that I need imported into a fresh MySQL database. The file is on a Windows 2008 server, and the MySQL server is a Amazon cloud RDS instance. As far as I can tell, you have two options for completing this: 1) You may log into the Windows server via RDP, and use a tool (of your choice) to import the file into the remote MySQL server. 2) A duplicate of the file resides on Amazon S3. You may use AWS Pipe to import the contents into the RDS server. Please let me know if there's a third option, and I will be more than happy to consider it.

Anyone who has imported large csv to RDS knows the 1GB limit on the files. The large file will need to be split into portions less than 1GB each, compressed independently and then sent to the server. I assume it would need to be loaded on a new database?

Hi For that large a file, I think I'd rather use a custom made PHP script that would parse all of it and import into a local mysql, then export the dump and import into the remote server, or the php script could run queries directly into the remote server. I'm telling this becuase it depends on how your mysql db is configured and how large are the packets that it accepts. However, as long as you can grant remote access to your mysql, there shouldn't be major issues importing. I'll most likely download the csv locally and run the script locally, on a dev server ... And your job should be completed in about 2-2.5h PS: what MySQL version does your amazon instance run there ? Regards Dragos
