We live in central California (Santa Maria) and water is an issue always. I "killed" my front lawn and now need new landscaping. I live on a corner lot and the lot is approx. 6700 sq ft and as far as I can estimate I need approx. 1560 sq ft landscaped. The design I think could be a combination of hard and soft scape (some grass maybe artificial) maybe 500 of lawn. I like the red rock color of Arizona and the larger river rock look too. I see more and more of large rocks (3 ft x 3 ft or bigger) being used. The front area is sloped about 2 feet and this caused problems with watering the lawn. Plus we have a long narrow side yard (approx. 7 ft wide x 60 ft long) that also is sloped so keeping the dirt from off the sidewalk is a problem too. We really need help with design ideas. The yard is North facing with little shade from the house.
