Hi, STM32 is my daily project in this last 6 years. I know both of it's firmware and hardware part. I know how to make to work well. And I familiar with most of its peripheral(ADC,DAC,DMA,FSMC/FMC,GPIO,EXTI, SPI,I2C,UART,etc). I have use STM32 for various kind of project from hobbyst, Robotic, Industrial,IoT, and military purpose. Currently I use System Workbench for IDE, Gcc-arm-none-eabi as compiller, and STM32CubeMX as project generator. I am Professional PCB designer and Firmware proggrammer. I'm and experienced embedded systems developer and have worked a lot with both STM32 MCUs and CAN bus. In your project I suggest to put MCU into stop mode and wake it up from an external interrupt connected to CAN receiver. I believe it is the most efficient way to save power consuption.
