Hello. Im designing different electronics devices, mostly based on avr, arm MCUs and boards with them like arduino, stm-discovery etc. (autopromotion^)) What is your sensor? What do you mean with "rs485 protocol"? 485 is physical layer. Simple serial uart or any other locig protocol can be sent over it. Do you need just code or some hardware design too? Can both. I've did a low power water meter and I knew exactly the issue you are facing. To make the board with very low power consumption, e.g. running on battery for many months, you will need a hardware with: 1. Custom board with ATMega328p using low standby regulator, no led, etc. You can also modify the Arduino Pro to do that. 2. You need a very low power hall sensor. Normal hall sensor in popular water meter consumes at least 4-8mA at 3.3V and of course more at 5V. In my previous project, I modified the YF-S201 and YF-B1 sensor and use DRV5012 IC hall sensor instead. Of course, the MCU must be in sleep most of the time and only wake up to count pulse when there are. My previous project uses ATMega328p-au and ESP12F to submit data to the database on a web server directly via WiFi. It should not be a problem using RS485. Your RS485 interfacing also need to be reviewed to ensure no leakage current while the MCU is sleeping. If you use my proposed approach, your board might run on 1 cell Li-ion 18650 battery for many months or years. My proposal include: 1. Make code for Atmega328p using Arduino IDE 2. Design schematic and PCB in Eagle and 1 prototype board (with a custom YF-B1). You will need to pay for shipment. Thank you, Anh
