You will be transcribing several different types of legal hearings followings the Style Guidelines provided by DTI. If you have experience in multi-speaker audio transcription, excellent English language skills, good typing speed and attention to detail, you are the perfect fit for this role. You will be computer literate with access to a PC/laptop where encryption software can be installed, a fast broadband internet connection, Microsoft Word, headphones and software to play the audio files.
All candidates will undertake the DTI on-line English, IQ and typing assessments. On successful completion of these assessments, you will receive full training in DTI transcription styles.
Please note, this is a self-employed role.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Transcription of multi-speaker audio including

We are looking for:
• Experience of transcribing multi-speaker audio
• Ability to type at a minimum speed of 70 wpm
• Excellent English language skills – grammar, spelling and punctuation
• Relevant work experience, preferably in a legal, parliamentary or business setting

I live in South Africa. Worked part time in a legal firm, although I have done audio transcriptions. I always wanted to do work like this here in SA - I just have never had the money to go and learn. Here you need to know someone who knows someone. My typing speed varies between 68 wpm and 98% accuracy and spell check does the rest.
I have a Pitman (UK) First Class Business English pass as well as have worked in the business world for 30 years. I am a single breadwinner so I really need the extra work. I relax when I type so this will be an enjoyable task for me.
I definitely do pay attention to detail. I am willing to do all the tests and give you suitable references.

I have a typing speed of 80 wpm and a background in copywriter, media and marketing which involved a very pragmatic approach to attention to detail and speed. Working in media also allowed me to be accustomed to an environment that respects the highest confidentiality of our clients and company. I already have a license to Microsoft Office.
Working in the media, digital marketing and copywriting industries , audio transcribing was a common task for me during podcasts and on air checks.
A recent masters degree holder (LLM) and therefore would be greatly suited in faster understanding of the legal jargon as well as fast transcription of the necessary work.
