I have designed a tablet-based app that will let anyone create songs whether or not they have formal music training. There are no time signatures, key signatures, measures, or classic music notation conventions to deal with.
I have designed an interface that is simple enough to be used by music novices, and especially children, who may use the app as their first music program to learn basic music concepts with almost no learning curve. At the same time, the interface is robust enough to allow songwriters of all ages and music skills to use the app as a simple songwriting notepad for creating songs, from single-track melodies to multi-track harmonic compositions, which may then be exported as MIDI files for use with professional notation software for later polishing and publication. And for singers and musicians who want to work with songs that have already been written, they may use the app to learn and practice songs and harmonies by visually appreciating note timing and duration, no sight-reading ability required.
In short, I have created a dead-simple way for people to write and play music, whatever music knowledge they have.
I have prepared a functional design spec, and am now looking for a developer to turn it into a working app, and preferably someone with a music background. This will be an iPad app. Other platforms may come later as separate projects. So only developers with iPad/iPhone/iPod touch experience need apply.
If this is at all interesting to you and you'd like to learn more, please let me know.
