Part A – Deemed to Satisfy Solution
You will be given two (2) Performance Requirements from BCA Volume 1 (2016). The 2 performance requirements are FP1.3 and EP2.1
Visit two buildings in the Class 3 to 9 range of classifications. These can be multi classification buildings but must be different buildings. RMIT building 56/57 is not to be used since it is Type A construction. Select any component or installation in each building which is a Deemed-to-Satisfy (DTS) solution. This solution; as you should know is in the building to comply with a Performance Requirement.
Take one photograph of the front of each building and classify the part where your DTS solutions are located. Also photograph each of your DTS solutions.
In the written part of the assignment you will quote from the BCA only the DTS that required your solution to be in the building. Remember the DTS includes specifications which become part of the DTS. You are advised to think about which DTS you understand before you decide on a DTS solution.
Also include a cut and paste of one relevant clause from any one Australian Standard referenced in the Deemed to Satisfy Provisions (or Specification, if any) you are quoting from.
Each Deemed to Satisfy Solution is to be written about separately. The DTS for each solution is to be written as steps that lead to a DTS solution.
Marks will be deducted for the inclusion in your assignment of any incorrect BCA clauses that could not possibly be related to your chosen features.
Part B – Performance Solution
(a) From Part A of this assignment select one of your DTS solutions and assume it is possible to develop a Performance Solution for it. Therefore what you photographed will no longer be in the form it is or may not be there at all.
(i) Describe how you will use one of the A2.2 Evidence of Suitability methods allowed by A0.5 (a) and one of the A0.5 other Assessment Methods (c), or (d) to attempt to prove that your Performance Solution complies with a Performance Requirement.
Note: for simplicity, your proposed Performance Solution will not affect other Performance Requirements and relevant DTS as is often the case. Read BCA A0.7 (a) & (b) for further understanding of this.
(ii) Assume A0.7 now applies to your Proposed Performance solution. Describe the implications of this and attempt to give an example relevant to your Performance Solution.
(b) Verification Methods and ABCB Protocols.
(i) What is a Verification Method?
(ii) Select one Verification method from the following - BV1,
CV1, DV1, EV4.1 or FV5.1 – describe how it can be used to comply with a Performance Requirement.
(iii) What is an ABCB Protocol? How can one be used in Section B of the BCA?
