We have two figures intended for inclusion in an article within the journal Science that we would like done professionally. The objective is to make them clear and also visually appealing to increase the chances of the article being accepted. The article relates to (1) how to better describe the behaviour of salts in water, and (2) how to use that knowledge to correctly predict how much CO2 the oceans will absorb, and how much more acidic they will then become.
The first figure will be based on the file Oceanic [login to view URL] uploaded below. This should be a cartoon representation of the second concept described above. The second figure is based in part on the file [login to view URL] uploaded below. However, in that case we would like instead a single 3D representation of the lattice of salt ions that form when they are dissolved in water. That is we want a single 3D lattice of spheres (with different sizes for the three different ions, with sufficiently clear labelling). Most of the spheres in the lattice should be grey. The central ion in the lattice and its interaction with 3 of its neighbours in one of the corner surrounding is the primary subject of the figure. This is shown by the circle in the uploaded file but in the 3D version, we'd like a spotlight emanating from the central ion to highlight the target ions in the corner. All the ions in the spotlight and the central one should be coloured according to the scheme shown in the uploaded file.
