I’m building a retro-styled, 16-bit horror experience for PC and need the entire project set up from scratch. Think moody pixel art, atmospheric sound design, and tight, responsive side-scrolling controls. The player must explore multiple interconnected rooms, solve logic-based puzzles that gate progression, fight or avoid enemies, manage a visible health bar, and unravel a concise narrative delivered through in-game events and brief text. Core requirements • Pixel-art graphics that evoke classic 90s consoles, with palette consistency and parallax where appropriate. • A side-scrolling camera with smooth player movement, jumping, crouching, and melee or ranged attacks. • Enemy AI that patrols, chases, and damages the player on contact. • Distinct rooms/levels stitched together seamlessly or via short transitions. • Logic puzzles (switches, pattern matching, sequence solving, etc.) integrated naturally into the environment. • Dynamic sound effects and looping background music that react to tension moments. • HUD-based health system plus visible feedback when hit. • Save/load checkpoints (at least one manual and one auto-save slot). • Compact story conveyed through environmental cues and minimal text pop-ups. Deliverables 1. Fully working source code, cleanly organized and commented. 2. All art, audio, and project files in clearly named folders. 3. One click (or simple command-line) build/run instructions for Windows PC. 4. A short README covering controls, puzzle solutions for QA, and build pipeline details. Acceptance criteria • Fresh clone/build of the repo produces a playable executable with no missing assets or errors. • Completing all rooms and puzzles triggers an end-game sequence. • Saving, exiting, and loading restores player state accurately. • Code passes a quick style review (no magic numbers, clear function names, logical folder structure). Use whatever 2D-friendly engine you prefer—Godot, Unity (URP 2D), or GameMaker Studio are all fine—as long as the tooling is free for me to open, read, and compile. Please keep third-party assets either completely original or properly licensed for commercial release and include attributions where required. Once the build runs flawlessly and the documentation is clear enough for me to replicate the process, the project will be considered complete.

Hi, I carefully reviewed your brief for the 16-bit side-scrolling horror game, including interconnected rooms, enemy patrol/chase behavior, combat, puzzles, health HUD, save/load, story cues, and tension-based audio. I have hands-on experience with Godot, Unity/C#, gameplay architecture, enemy AI, combat systems, UI, and save systems. I can build this in Godot with a clean, readable structure and provide the complete source project, Windows build, licensed assets, README, and build instructions. I would begin with a vertical slice containing movement, combat, one enemy, and one complete room. After approval, I would expand the rooms and puzzles, implement progression and save/load, then complete the audio, visual polish, performance testing, and final Windows build. My rate is ₹900/hour with availability of 20 hours per week, which can be increased temporarily for important milestones. Before starting, how many rooms and how much total playtime are you targeting? Will you provide the pixel art and audio, or should their creation/licensing be included in the tracked hours?

Good day! Based on your requirements, I understand that you're looking to build a complete retro style 16-bit horror game for PC from scratch, with pixel art visuals, atmospheric audio, side-scrolling controls, interconnected rooms, puzzles, enemy AI, health, story events, and save/load functionality. I can develop this in Godot or Unity 2D, keeping the project cleanly organized and easy to open, modify, and compile. I’ll implement responsive movement and combat, enemy patrol/chase behavior, room transitions, logic-based puzzles, HUD health feedback, checkpoints, dynamic audio, and the end-game sequence. I’ll also keep assets properly organized and use only original or commercially licensed resources. The final project will include the complete source, assets, Windows build instructions, and a README covering controls, puzzle solutions, and the build process. Q1: Do you already have the pixel-art assets, music, and sound effects, or should I create/source the required assets as part of the project? Q2: Do you have a preferred engine between Godot, Unity 2D, and GameMaker, or should I choose based on the simplest maintainable setup? I would love to have a detailed conversation about the game concept, number of rooms, and expected gameplay length so I can plan the development properly. The budget and payment terms can be discussed and mutually finalized after reviewing the complete requirements and scope of work. Thank You!

I recently helped a client bring their retro horror game vision to life, combining pixel art and immersive sound design to create a spine-chilling experience. I can help you achieve a seamless, atmospheric game that captivates players through logic-based puzzles and engaging combat mechanics. I noticed you need a side-scrolling camera with smooth player movement and distinct rooms that feel interconnected. This is crucial for maintaining that immersive horror vibe. I specialize in clean coding and organizing assets, ensuring everything runs smoothly. First, I would focus on establishing the core mechanics and refining the enemy AI to enhance player interactions. I'm available to start immediately and happy to hop on a quick call if useful. Let's discuss the details — when works for you? Looking forward to your message. Kind Regards, Anchel.
