  • Take chances with typography. "Helvetica" or "Arial" is safe, but it's also super common. Alpha.School is about being confident enough to make your mark without hesitation — that should be communicated all throughout the design. Explore other font faces, weights, spacing — make the app stand out

  THE DEADLINE IS GETTING CLOSE!
  I've reviewed a lot of submissions and have noticed a lot of common mistakes. I want you to do well though, so I'm going to provide you with advice on how to WIN THIS CONTEST. Heed this advice!
  
  • Avoid all white backgrounds. It's okay to be very light backgrounds (that are functionally white), but use that screen real estate to show something powerful that communicates the brand aesthetic (e.g. power, wealth, strength, charisma), such as a full-screen photo
  • Make effective use of alpha transparent layers
  • Make effective use of blurs (this can be helpful when using a photo as a background, but making sure text on top of it remains readable)
  • FOLLOW iPHONE USER INTERFACE GUIDELINES ---> I'm seeing designs that look like you've never used an iPhone. Don't waste your time submitting designs that look like a different OS altogether. Thought this would be obvious, but some of you need to be told explicitly.
