Change Lives!

It's not disappearing; it's showing up in a different market. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon told analysts this week that AI has already cut jobs by 30 to 40 percent in some units of the bank and that most affected staff were offered roles elsewhere rather than let go outright. At the same time, on Freelancer, bookkeeping work is up 20.9% and tax compliance work is up 11% over the same stretch, the exact kind of back-office finance function Dimon's talking about. Somebody still has to do the accounts. AI just changed who gets paid to do it and how.
Dimon was careful to say AI won't dramatically cut JPMorgan's costs, because every bank is adopting the same tools, so nobody keeps the advantage for long. What it does do is shrink how many people a task needs inside one building. That doesn't mean the task disappears. Freelancer's numbers over the same two months show bookkeeping and tax compliance demand both growing at a real scale, not a rounding error.
Cost is part of it, but flexibility matters more. A freelancer scales up around tax season and down the rest of the year. A department doesn't. Once a big employer proves a function can run lean with AI-assisted tools, smaller businesses copy the model without needing the department at all, they just hire the person directly.
If AI's already reshaping your department, the fastest hedge is proving the skill sells on its own. Post the project to hire a freelance book-keeper or tax specialist today, or browse bookkeeping talent if you're the one weighing whether to make the jump yourself.
